“The Cap Cana Classic”
The First Annual Marlin Fishing Tournament
is a Huge Success.

Cap Cana, Dom. Rep., July 19, 2008. – The First Annual Marlin Fishing Tournament, “The Cap Cana Classic”, finished with a spectacular awards ceremony in the Grand Canal of Cap Cana’s Marina as the mixture of celebration and camaraderie created a fantastic atmosphere between competing fishermen, crews, relatives, and Cap Cana executives.

Ricardo Hazoury, President of the Cap Cana board of directors, expressed his immense pleasure at the success of this esteemed sporting event which was celebrated for the first time in the Caribbean’s most important tourism and real estate development, Cap Cana - also known as the World’s New Great Destination. He also took the opportunity to establish the tournament’s inclusion in Cap Cana’s 2009 renowned sporting calendar, where teams and boats from the Dominican Republic and other countries will participate.

The awards were divided into different categories; the top three places for the “Highest Scoring Fishermen” went to Jose Antonio Acebal with 1,000 points, Wally Heinsen with 1,000 points, and Juan Carlos Antorcha with 500 points.

The “Best Boats & Crew Score” went to “La Pescadora”of Armando D’Alessandro with 1,500 points, Jose Luis Ochoa’s “Tortuga” with 1,000 points, and Luis Manuel Paliza Villeya’s “Spirit of Freedom” in third place.

Outstanding Fishermen of the First and Second Days”, went to Jose Antonio Acebal, with 500 points each day day.

As a grand surprise for the night, Ricardo Hazoury announced that the winning prize for the highest point scorers of this inaugural tournament of “The Cap Cana Classic” will be an all expenses paid trip to participate in the XII International Deep-Sea Fishing Tournament of Port Banus – VII Prince of Asturias Cup, to be celebrated from the 19th to the 21st of September this year in Spain, thanks to a collaborating agreement between the Cap Cana Marina and the Port Banus Marina. Jose Antonio Acebal, Wally Heinsen and Juan Carlos Antorcha will be representing Cap Cana and the Dominican Republic in this renowned event.

After the ceremony, all guests enjoyed a delicious selection of foods, meticulously prepared by the chefs of the Mitre Restaurant in the Marina, with the atmosphere livened by a music group until the early hours of the morning.

Cap Cana’s “The Cap Cana Classic” was highly praised by everyone involved in the inaugural tournament of spectacular catch and release Blue Marlin Fishing, highlighting the immense amenities and natural beauty that has positioned it as “The International Destination for Fishing and Yachting”.
