Vicente Fernández, "I could play the Punta Espada course every day of my life without ever getting tired"
Q - How would you best describe Punta Espada?
A – The Punta Espada golf course is very demanding by its design, and the difficulty is certainly added by having 8 holes in front of the sea along with the remaining holes overlooking the sea. Because of this, the wind blows with more intensity. This is a fundamental factor that affects your final score. Without a doubt it is a field that represents many challenges for the player. The golfer will have to take a lot of care.
Q - For such a young course, what opinion do you have of the course that is justifiable?A – Punta Espada is wonderful. It is an excellent course with impressive conditions. To already be hosting a PGA Champions Tour event within 2 years is amazing. In reality, this is a spectacular feat. My opinion is that it is a course that everyone has to play at least once before dying. In fact, I could play this course every day of my life without ever getting tired.
Q – Do you think that The Cap Cana Championship will be important to strengthen the Dominican Republic’s profile in golf? A – I congratulate Ricardo Hazoury for this incredibly impressive project. Cap Cana is the pride of the country. I urge all professional players to come and play Punta Espada, even if just once, because it will be a life changing experience. Punta Espada in Cap Cana is affirming the Dominican Republic to the world as the leading golfing destination. This inaugural tournament has unquestionably confirmed this. I have this Latin pride because the Dominican Republic has hosted a PGA TOUR's Champions Tour event. This event has demonstrated that in the country there is the ability to make and develop a successful Champions Tour event.
Q – Are you thinking to return to play Punta Espada again?A - I have traveled the world playing golf, and Punta Espada is one of the most beautiful and spectacular courses. It really is extraordinary, and without a doubt I will return to play here again and again.
