DRGFF welcomes Victoria Abril and Claudia Cardinale to Cap Cana


Cardinale  and Abril arrived to  Cap Cana  tourist paradise  and will  also illuminate the Green Carpet stars entrance  to the opening ceremony of DRGFF 2010, on Wednesday November 17 at 7:00 pm, at the National Theatre.


Omar de la Cruz, Director of DRGFF, and Yvette Marichal, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, served as hosts to the actresses, along with Lorelay Castillo, Cap Cana’s Public Relations Director.


With this press conference formally began the activities of the most important film event in the country, which takes place in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Nagua, Puerto Plata, Cap Cana, and Higuey.   Haiti also joined the film circuit  this year which includes more than 50 films, 26 panels and workshops.

Omar de la Cruz,  Festival  Director  welcomed  the two stars presence  which supports  the initiative to strengthen and encourage the film industry in the Dominican Republic.
"We are flattered to have such prestigious guests, who we only see on the screens. These two stars have their feet on the ground. Claudia is loving and friendly. "


De la Cruz said that Abril has shown her humanitarian side expressing her interest in supporting the screening in Haiti.  He announced that the actress will be going on Thursday 18th to the Haitian capital to attend the inauguration of DRGFF.


The actresses began to interact with journalists and the questions started to flow. With regard to the Dominican Republic, Cardinale said, ``I like it a lot. It is wonderful, the sun is fantastic `` Similarly, said she felt very excited about the award that President Leonel Fernandez will hand over to them.


When talking about the emotions that drive them when they are working, both agreed that although we live only one life, the film industry gives them the opportunity to live many lives, as characters changes. '.
April added that their roles allow them to do a second, a third, a hundredth shot.
Claudia Cardinale referred to her work in favour of women all through her artistic career, pointing out her roles as United Nations Ambassador  on  behalf of women affairs,  world nature and also for children.

Victoria Abril  is actively involved since 2002 in the association O Africa, which works with orphan children in Ghana, and is responsible of taking  children out of orphanages and returning them to their families who are still alive.

Abril stated that although she loves movies, her singing career has allowed her to touch paradise. “With music I have played the Paradise.  Film does not let you see the public. When you're in concert you can feel people, a concert gives me life. I know how I want to die, singing”.

Cap Cana is one of the largest venues of the Dominican Global Film Festival. World cinema stars who meet every year in this event have the opportunity  to enjoy one of the most privileged tourist zones in the Caribbean.

Claudia Cardinale is one of the greatest icons of the world cinema, with a career that has allowed her to have a legion of fans around the world. The 60's had a particular significance in her career, when she worked in several productions of Luchino Visconti. Her protagonic role in The Leopard and Rocco and His Brothers, with Alain Delon in 1963, are part of the memorable history of European cinema.


Also her trascendental work under the Direction of movie masters such as Federico Fellini – in  8 ½ - and Sergio Leone's "Until the time is Up”.


Cardinale, who lives in Paris, has also been highlighted as a woman and actress of up and coming ideas, which have linked her to the women and gay communities movements.


Victoria Abril, with a glittering career, is one of the leading actresses of Spanish cinema in the international arena.


In the 90's she became the new muse of Pedro Almodóvar. The actress starred Tie Me Up Tie Me Down, High Heels and Kika, three legend films of Almodóvar .  Almodóvar has said about  April,  that "she would arrive  soul naked to the scene and  would allow me  to take out of her whatever I wanted."
