Jack Nicklaus visits Cap Cana to oversee the development of the Las Iguanas Golf Course
“Las Iguanas will be a uniquely different golf course” - Jack Nicklaus.
Cap Cana, Dom. Rep. – August 7, 2008 - The legendary Jack Nicklaus, also known as The Golden Bear, visited the exclusive Cap Cana real estate and tourism destination to supervise the construction developments of Las Iguanas along with his design team and the executives of Frontier Golf.
During the meticulous hole-by-hole tour, Nicklaus expressed his primary objectives for the course: “My target is for golfers to enjoy and have fun playing Las Iguanas; that is my intention and is the reason we are here”.
Regarding the characteristics that distinguish the second Nicklaus Signature course at Cap Cana from any other, he commented on “the isolated island holes on the sea with their unique views; the sand traps’ vertical walls on the 2nd hole and others will be different to anything else, and the greens will have more breaking movements, creating a completely different experience.
Cap Cana’s ecological diversity has been taken into close consideration in the golf course’s design, protecting and incorporating its beauty into the development. From the beginning of the construction, this golf course has been carefully planned by Jack Nicklaus and his team, having realized an excellent combination of short and long holes, challenging holes with cross-winds, holes playing over the sea, lagoons, and special sand traps where the golfer will find a course full of enjoyable challenges.
This is the third visit by Nicklaus since the construction of Las Iguanas began. The first 9 holes are anticipated to be ready at the end of this year, and the complete 18 to open in the Spring of 2009. With an investment of 26 million dollars, “Las Iguanas” promises to be a gem in Cap Cana’s golf course portfolio. The grass to be used is Seashore Paspalum Supreme; characterized for its high tolerance to saltwater.
The surface of Las Iguanas Golf Course covers an enormous 996,795 m2. The clubhouse will have a further luxurious 6,050 m2, complete with five star services and facilities including a lobby, bar, restaurant, library, pro-shop, locker-room, and terrace.
